DB Table

Storage Management

Understand how data storage works for anonymous and authenticated users

Storage Management

DBTable provides different storage solutions depending on your authentication status, with enhanced capabilities for authenticated users.

Storage Types

Local Storage (Anonymous Users)

When using DBTable without signing in, your data is stored locally in your browser:

  • Capacity: Limited to browser storage limits (typically 5-10MB)
  • Persistence: Data remains until you clear browser data
  • Access: Only available on the current device and browser
  • Backup: No automatic backup - data can be lost

Cloud Storage (Authenticated Users)

Signed-in users benefit from cloud storage:

  • Capacity: Higher storage limits based on user tier
  • Persistence: Data stored securely in the cloud
  • Access: Available across all your devices
  • Backup: Automatic backup and sync

Managing Local Storage

Viewing Storage Usage

For anonymous users, the file upload area displays:

  • Current storage usage with a progress bar
  • Percentage of storage capacity used
  • Visual indicators when approaching limits

Clearing Local Data

To free up local storage space:

  1. Look for the Clear Data button in the storage usage section
  2. Click the button to open the confirmation dialog
  3. Review the current storage usage information
  4. Click Clear Data to confirm, or Cancel to abort
  5. All locally stored data will be permanently removed

⚠️ Warning: Clearing local data is permanent and cannot be undone. Consider exporting your data before clearing.

Storage Limits and Warnings

When approaching storage limits:

  • Progress bar changes color to indicate usage levels
  • Warning messages appear when nearing capacity
  • Upload restrictions may apply when limits are reached

Upgrade Prompts

When Upgrade Prompts Appear

Anonymous users may see upgrade prompts when:

  • Attempting to upload files exceeding size limits
  • Reaching storage capacity limits
  • Accessing premium features

Upgrade Benefits

Upgrading to an authenticated account provides:

  • Increased Storage: Higher file size and total storage limits
  • Cloud Sync: Access data from any device
  • Enhanced Features: Premium functionality and tools
  • Data Security: Secure cloud backup and encryption

How to Upgrade

  1. Click Sign Up or Upgrade when prompted
  2. Complete the authentication process
  3. Your existing local data can be migrated to cloud storage
  4. Enjoy enhanced storage and features

Storage Tiers

Anonymous Tier

  • Local browser storage only
  • Basic file size limits
  • No cross-device access
  • Data vulnerable to browser clearing

Authenticated Tier

  • Cloud storage with higher limits
  • Cross-device synchronization
  • Enhanced security and backup
  • Access to premium features

Premium Tier (Future)

  • Maximum storage capacity
  • Priority support
  • Advanced features
  • Extended data retention

Best Practices

For Anonymous Users

  • Regularly export important data
  • Monitor storage usage
  • Consider upgrading for important projects
  • Be aware of browser data clearing policies

For Authenticated Users

  • Take advantage of cloud sync
  • Organize data across devices
  • Use enhanced features for productivity
  • Regular data management and cleanup

Troubleshooting

Storage Full

  • Clear unnecessary local data
  • Export and remove old projects
  • Consider upgrading to authenticated storage
  • Check browser storage settings

Data Not Syncing

  • Ensure stable internet connection
  • Verify authentication status
  • Try refreshing the application
  • Contact support if issues persist

Lost Local Data

  • Check if data was exported previously
  • Verify browser settings and history
  • Consider using authenticated storage to prevent future loss
  • Contact support for recovery options

Migration

From Local to Cloud Storage

When upgrading from anonymous to authenticated:

  1. Your local data is automatically detected
  2. Migration options are presented during sign-up
  3. Choose to transfer existing data to cloud storage
  4. Verify successful migration after authentication
  5. Local data can be safely cleared after migration

This ensures a smooth transition while preserving your work and data.
